Dogs are Popular Pets in Sauerland

The Association of German Dogs (VDH) estimates that since the start of the pandemic, there are about 20 percent more dogs than before. If you keep a dog, you must pay taxes on it. According to the taxpayers’ association, the tax has remained the same in all our municipalities compared to the previous year.

Winterberg is the most expensive in the area. There, a tax of 100 euros per year is charged per dog. In Esloe, it is the cheapest – 59 euros. In North Rhine-Westphalia, keeping a dog in Hagen is the most expensive – 180 euros. HSK currently has about 10,000 dogs.

Tax on dogs deemed dangerous

Anyone who keeps a dog breed classified as dangerous must pay 880 euros for the first animal in Marsberg, the highest tax in the county. On the other hand, a fighting dog at Bestwig costs only 485 euros. Throughout the country, keeping a dog classified as dangerous is the most expensive in Heimbach, costing 1,200 euros per year.
