Gourmet products, wines, beverages and crafts from rural entrepreneurs from all over Chile can be found at ExpoMundoRural 2022 “From the Field to your Table”, organized by INDAP and taking place again after a long absence of four years between the 22 and 25 of this month at Estación Mapocho Cultural Center in Santiago.
Below is a selection of some prominent exhibitors who will be present at the farmers’ show:
Oregano from Putre: Cultivated at an altitude of over 3,000 meters, in exceptional soil, water and climate conditions, oregano from the foothills of Putre, in the Arica and Parinacota region, differs from other varieties due to its taste, texture and aroma. . It was introduced by the first Spanish settlers and today it is cultivated in terraces and with agroecological management by Aymara farmers. With Seal of Origin from 2016 it will be present through the Oro Verde Cooperative and the Adelaida Marca production company.
Andean quinoa: Married and mother of four, Johana Mamani produces quinoa in Escapiña, Colchane community, Tarapacá region. Wheat is processed at Alto Hospicio and sold at INDAP Markets and at home. Branded Mac’am (“come”, in Aymara), its offering includes quinoa for greasing, casseroles, toasted flour, semolina and coffee. “Quinoa is part of our cultural heritage,” says Johanna, who shares her recipes for making this ancestral grain on social media.
Goat burger: With a new offering of shredded, minced goat meat and in burgers, the Catahueche agricultural company, formalized in 2021 and made up of 668 goat producers from the agricultural community of Canela Baja, in the Coquimbo region, arrives in Santiago for the first time. This is the first goat meat processing plant in the country.
Choapa Wines: Photographer Alejandra Molina was born in Valparaíso and her work took her to Salamanca, in the Coquimbo region, where she settled a decade ago on a 2-hectare estate. In 2015, together with his mother and other women in his family, he started producing two varieties of wine, a sweet one with Pedro Jiménez grapes and a red Syrah, which in 2020 and 2021 won him gold medals at the Catad’Or Wine. Awards.. Wayra Vientos del Choapa produces 3,000 bottles a year and its next plans are to venture into the Garnacha and Malbec varieties.
Honey from Rapa Nui: Diana Edmunds and her husband René Ocampo, beekeepers from Rapa Nui, have the family project Meri Heretea, dedicated to the study, production and dissemination of a unique honey and one of the healthiest in the world (according to studies, the bees of this island territory are free from the main diseases that affect them). Its honey has aromas of tropical fruits such as mango, guava and pineapple and is more moist than the common ones, due to the higher moisture of the nectar.
National pistachio: Felicita Moreno lives in La Orilla de Auquinco, Chépica, O’Higgins region, and has been producing pistachios for more than two decades on a 6-hectare plot. She is in charge of the harvest and processes the fruit under the Vicar brand (from her daughters Viviana and Carla) in various forms: naturally, in savory and sweet flavors, as well as butter. “I was just a country woman, but thanks to INDAP I am now an entrepreneur,” she says. She sells her products in stores in her area and in the Rural World stores in Santiago.
True Mapuche merkén: “Merkén has been in the Mapuche culture for many years and has always been a gourmet condiment, since its preparation was slow and it was not served to anyone, it was only for people who wanted to have fun. ” says Ginette Rivera Tralma, an entrepreneur from Cholchol, in the region of La Araucanía, who keeps the family recipe and also produces other dehydrated seasonings, such as herbs to season meat and fish, lemon balm, garlic-paprika and chamomile .
Taste of sea and land: luche and cochayuyo vinaigrette, leafy sea lettuce and cochayuyo-strawberry and cochayuyo-raspberry jams are part of the offer brought by Cooperativa Pesquera Flor del Mar, made up of 9 women and 2 men from La Pampina from the community Los Muermos, Los Lagos Region, who decided to innovate with processes that mix small fruit trees and vegetables with seaweed from the region.
Essential oils: Cecilia Leviñanco lives in Repollal, a town in the municipality of Guaitecas, in the Aysén region, and thanks to the Wood Energy and Non-Wood Forest Products program, in 2018 she began to export essential oils and hydrolics from cypress, cinnamon. eucalyptus and tepah for the production of cosmetics. In his home, next to a wood-burning stove and an icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe, he produces aromatherapy oils, shampoos, balms, creams, soaps and colognes.
Calafate and mushrooms: The Patagonia Intensa production committee consists of 16 non-timber forest product collectors from Cochrane, in the Aysén region. Trained by INFOR and hand in hand with INDAP, today they seek to market their products in new markets. They bring juice, liqueur and caulking concentrate and dehydrated pine and morel mushrooms to the fair.
ExpoMundoRural will also feature major artists such as Gepe, who will perform on Friday the 23rd at 6:00pm, and Singing I Learn to Talk, who will be on Sunday the 25th at 12:00pm. The ticket has a value of $2,000 and can be purchased through the Punto Ticket system or at ticket offices.
